Hydra is one of the most amazing and cosmopolitan islands of Greece, located between the Saronic Gulf and the Argolic Gulf, separated from Peloponnese by a thin strip of water. The island played a significant role in the 1821 War of Independence, providing ships and resources in the fight against the Ottoman Empire. Two of its most heroic figures were Lazaros Koundouriotis and Andreas Miaoulis, whose bravery and sacrifice are honoured to this day.
Today, Hydra is the perfect island to engage in water activities like fishing, scuba diving and swimming on its beautiful beaches: Mandráki, Bísti, Vlychós, Spiliá, Limnióniza, Hydronéta and Ayios Nikolaos. Just an hour trip from piraeus port Hydra is a great escape from the city of Athens making it an ideal day trip or even multi-day trip during off season when rooms availability is generally high.
